Any car insurance plans you can cancel or re-activate monthly?
I am a recently licensed teen going to college in a month. I won’t be driving that much while I’m there but I want to for the next few weeks and will be when I’m home occasionally. Is there any kind of insurance I can get that will allow me to re-activate the insurance and cancel it on a monthly basis? Or every couple months? My family has Geico but do any other companies have an option like this? In the U.S. only. California driver.

Unless you’re planning on buying your own car, you don’t need a separate insurance policy. Just make sure your parents have listed you as a driver on their vehicle, and you don’t have to hassle with on again/off again insurance. \That will also negate the possibility of you forgetting to activate it and possibly being nabbed for driving without coverage. Good luck!
If you are away at school, over 100 miles without a vehicle, your parents can tell the insurance company and they should give you a very reduced rate. If GEICO uses the old standard rate classes, you will be rated as an adult driver so there is actually no cost to your parents to have you on the policy. If they use the new standard rate classes, there is a very slight (about 10% of the rate on the car) to have you listed on the policy. If they have their own rate classes, your parents would have to ask them. It will be assumed that you are home on vacations & between semesters so your parents will not need to notify the company that you are home. The only time they would need to call is if you graduate and are home for good (until you go out & get your own place) or if you leave school & come home or go to another school that is less than 100 miles away from home. I hope this helps you.
